Application Frequently Asked Questions

Applications take approximately 4–6 weeks to process once all required information has been submitted. Applications will be considered complete once program details have been received from the club within the required timeframe.
Please allow at least 4 weeks before requesting a status update. -
You may be eligible to apply for funding from Athletics for Kids (A4K) if all of the following apply:
The athlete is between 5 and 18 years old
The athlete is a resident of British Columbia
The family’s annual net income is less than $45,000 CAD
(see Financials section for details)The athlete is registered with a sports organization
The sport program meets A4K’s funding mandate and eligibility criteria (see Funding & Program Eligibility)

We recommend applying 6–8 weeks before the program starts to allow for processing time.
Applications must be submitted:
No later than 14 days after the start of play for programs less than 3 months
No later than 30 days after the start of play for programs more than 3 months
Applications are not accepted more than 3 months before the program start date. The start of play is determined by the sports organization.

Each application must include at least ONE of the following:
2024 Canada Child Benefit
2024 Notice of Assessment (from all parents/guardians) - After July 1st, 2026 we require your 2025 NOA
Confirmation of Social Assistance
Proof that the child is in foster care
Record of Employment
Proof of Disability Payments
Signed Release of Information (ROI) from the Ministry
Current Employment Insurance notice of deposit
Three most recent Pay Stubs
Temporary or Permanent Visa documentation
Additional financial considerations:
If net household income is over $10,000, additional details on household financial support may be required
If net household income is under $45,000, extraordinary expenses may be considered
The number of dependents may be considered in alignment with Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) guidelines, confirmed through your Canada Child Benefit statement
Additional documentation or a sponsor form may be requested on a case-by-case basis

Yes. You may apply to more than one funding organization while receiving support from A4K.

Yes. Sports organization information is required as part of the application.
To consider an application complete, the sports organization must confirm the athlete’s registration and provide details about the sports program. Additionally, some clubs may need to complete a one-time verification process, which could extend processing time.

Yes. The athlete must be registered with a sports organization to be eligible for funding.

The maximum grant amount is $200 per athlete per calendar year (January–December)
Only one program may be funded at a time
A separate application is required for each athlete
You may reapply within the same year for any unused funds (funds do not carry over to future years)

A new application is required each time funding is requested, including for year-round or ongoing programs.
All applications must be submitted within the required timelines. -

If there are changes to the sports organization, a new application form must be submitted.
Please contact our Grant Coordinator as soon as possible if changes occur. -
Community-based programs may be eligible if they are not school-run and meet A4K’s funding criteria. A4K defines a school-run program as one that is created, managed, and operated by a school. School-run programs are not eligible for funding.
Please make sure to include in your application, the registration barcode for this program, including the program’s start and end dates.
